Sabugo House

Sabugo House, which name means Elderberry Tree, named after the Elderberry Trees cultivated in the area, is a renovated old stone ruin, completely modernized with bathrooms, wood stove and kitchen, yet maintained the old fashioned charm and romantic atmosphere.
The rental accommodation consists of a main house with living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a double bed (160x200cm). The annexe is 10 meters away from the main house and has its own private entrance. It has a bathroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds (90x200cm). The annexe is only rented together with the main house.

The kitchen has a 4 burner gas stove, a fridge with freezer on the top, an oven, filter coffee drip, espresso maker, toaster, mixer, citrus press and electric kettle.

The living room has a wood stove, TV with DVD player and a collection of movies to watch, a range of board games and a library of books in English, German, French and Dutch.

The bed is very comfortable with open space at the foot-end so also tall people can sleep in comfort. The duvet is filled with down but a synthetic duvet is also available.
The bed linen, towels and kitchen towels are included in the price as well as electricity, water and gas bottles for cooking and hot water.

Behind the house is a very special outside shower with hot water, built inside an old stone construction. While luxuriously enjoying the hot water one can gaze towards the volcano crater on the east or the ocean on the west side.
Sunsets are spectacular to watch from the comfort of your chair in the tropical garden.
The lawn in front of the house is an ideal play field for the younger children and a lovely sun bathing spot for older generations.

Your first provisions and a cold drink await you in the fridge, compliments of the house.
Depending upon the wishes of the guests, they can either be undisturbed or if so chosen, sample the hospitality of the islanders with some social contact.

Location & Activities

Sabugo House is situated on a side road, off the main road surrounding the island, in a small rural community. The nearest shop, bar and restaurant is barely 10 minutes walking away, in the village called Arreiro.

The closest and one of the most beautiful swimming places on the island is just down the road, 5 minutes by car. It is a seawater fed pool in between the lava stones. A separate children’s pool makes this swimming place a pleasure for young and old.

Sabugo surroundings

For hikers: you can just put on your shoes and start walking trails from the doorstep of the Sabugo House. Up to the crater; or along the Levada, a water canal; down into the Faja (the wine growing area); or a sand path along the cliffs.
The area is also one of the best for trail riding with horses. The municipal horse stable is just 5 minutes away and the owner has also two horses usually in a field behind the house.
